Learning Management System Provides New College Course MaterialThis is a featured page

Universities nationwide have begun to implement a Learning Management System, as a new way of teaching that is rapidly becoming normative. Specialty schools have created programs in which students can earn their degree solely by distant learning. High tech videos take place of seminars; interactive coursework is implemented to ensure the same quality as in classroom studies.

A current Internet Marketing student, Jim Miller, tells of his experience attending Orlando based Full Sail University, while residing on the West Coast. Although working full time and going to school is a challenge, he acknowledges that the flexibility in classes enable him to pursue his degree. “It’s great because class is wherever you are. The convenience and flexibility of when you attend your class enables you to work your education around your career which helps to facilitate both endeavors.”

The Learning Management system has proven to be a valuable resource in not only delivering comprehensive curriculum, but creating a platform in which students can receive 24/7 support in their classes to aid in the comprehension of the material. However, with every positive there is a negative. Some Professors require students to participate in group projects, which can pose some major problems when factoring in time differences, work schedules, and less motivated students who do not pick up any responsibility of the work load. Due to these factors, evaluations of the courses and techniques are conducted after each quarterly session to ensure the curriculum layout is the most effective in delivering material.

When Jim was asked about the quality of the Learning Management System in regards to curriculum and teaching of “in classroom” courses in comparison to online courses he states, “The only difference that I have experience is that you are not physically in the classroom. I feel the quality of the curriculum and the concepts I am being taught are held at the same standard and uphold the same quality at any other University attending an in-person course.”While other colleges may still not have a Learning Management System implemented into their curriculum currently, signs of evolution are starting to become more evident in numerous revised courses.
